Dear Community Member,

Portland Village School is hosting our second annual fundraising auction on May 16th, 2009. Our theme this year is Oregon Local; a celebration of local food, arts and business. We would be very grateful for a donation from you in support of our school that we may offer in this auction. We are aware that this economic climate is challenging for many local businesses and families. We want to highlight the opportunity this brings for us to encourage our local economy and to bring greater awareness of the long-term economic benefits of shopping local. We would love to spotlight your business or institution in this way. As always, your donation is tax-deductible. Our Federal Tax ID# is located on the attached donation form.

PVS is a public charter school in our second year of operation. We are located in North Portland and offer Portland families a tuition-free, holistic, Waldorf-inspired education. Our core academics are enlivened by music, singing, story-telling, recitation, art, drama,
Spanish language, movement, folkdance and handwork. We are pleased to say that most of our classes are fully enrolled with waiting lists. We currently have students in Kindergarten through fifth grade. Each year we are adding an additional grade, as we plan to grow to a 400 student, K-8 school. Our parents often tell us how grateful they are to have this educational alternative for their children.

As a public charter school it is especially necessary for us to hold fundraisers. We are a non-profit school under contract with the Portland Public School district. We provide educational services; they provide money and some special education services to us. However, we do not receive as much money as neighborhood and magnet schools do, and we have costs, like rent, that those schools don't incur. So we have to do more with less. We have a lean administration, our staff work for modest salaries, and we have many incredible parent volunteers. Still, for us to reach our full potential, we need to rely on fundraising. Your generous donation of an auction item or service will greatly benefit the growth of our school which provides such a rich education for the
children and families of this community.

If you can support PVS with a donation, please fill out the donation form and return the top white portion to the PVS volunteer who contacted you, or send it directly into the school. The yellow copy is for your records. We will happily list your name, business, and contact information in our auction catalog, as well as feature your item at our auction.
